Today is the last day of the musical. There will be a performance for the school at 12 o`clock today, at Kulturhuset in Grimstad, and then a final performance at 6.30 this afternoon, at the same place. Be sure you`ve got a ticket! You can buy it using the link on the right side or inside Kulturhuset before the performance.

Switzerland next

Today the ensemble is going to meet again, this time in Switzerland. On Monday and Tuesday there will be two performances each day, first in Kulturzentrum Braui and the next day in Heiri-Saal in Hünenberg statt. I guess they are all looking forward to meet their friends, and also to perform in front of new audiences. Break a leg!

Jerusalem, Norway and Switzerland Collaborate In Song

December 2011

Students from the Max Rayne Hand in Hand School for Bilingual Education in Jerusalem collaborated with students from Norway and Switzerland creating and performing a musical that blends dance, poems and music into a multicultural show. Read more.

The Norwegian group has been busy for some time now, to make everything ready for the meeting in Jerusalem. They have had rehearsals several times a week, and last week two of the local newspapers made some articles about the project . Have a look here. The four pupils as well as the teachers, are well prepared and looking forward to meet the others within a week.

Visitors from Jerusalem in Grimstad

Friday the 18th of March we were lucky to have visitors from Jerusalem. These are the teachers from the Hand in Hand school in Jerusalem participating in “Bridges”; Njimeh and Raeif. They were met by Randi from the University of Agder in Kristiansand, and were transported to Arve’s house in Grimstad. The next day, Saturday, a few of the teachers at Fjære Ungdomsskole in Grimstad and the two visitors were taken fishing out on the sea just outside Grimstad. The fishing has been poor lately in Norway (some specious) because of overfishing, but this day we were really lucky (or very skilled fishermen?). Every five minutes we pulled in a cod which is a traditional course in Norway, often used for holiday dinners.

We spent the weekend together, enjoyed lovely meals, got to know each other and made out more plans for the musical project. On Monday we were lucky to have been invited to a lunch at the town hall where Njimeh and Raeif got to present their work in the Hand in Hand school organization. It was a very nice meeting. We look forward to seeing each other again.

What happens this winter

2011 will be a very interesting year for everyone involved in Bridges. The pictures along with this update are from the meetings in Jerusalem, Luzern and Grimstad in October and November. Many great people!

Right now music students from Kristiansand and Luzern compose our songs. They are supposed to be finished this week. Now in January Switzerland decides which students from the secondary schools will join in the core group. March 28^th the headmaster and one teacher from the school in Jerusalem will come to Norway. Again we will discuss the project as well as simply getting to know one another better.

4 schools, one college and one university are involved in the project. I hope this blog can be a place we all will enjoy and that many will use the opportunity to write comments.

October 2010 : A project week at Fjære Ungdomsskole, including all the pupils in 8th grade, working with the theme “Bridges”. As many subjects as possible were included (art, music, social studies etc.).
